For singles like me, Valentine’s Day is not a day we look forward to. While seeing couples declare their undying love for each other on Facebook, we’re sat there wondering why our soul mate hasn’t knocked on our front door to sweep us off our feet. If you’re single like me, rather than despair at seeing lovey-dovey posts on your socials, make Valentine’s a me-day. I’d rather treat V-Day as a day to practice self-care and treat myself to things that make me happy. Valentine’s Day is not just about showing others love, it’s about showing yourself some love too.
People will have their own ideas of self-care. For some, it’s relaxing in a bath watching a series on their iPad. Others will like to eat a box of Dairy Milk with a bottle of wine. Some may practice meditation or do a workout. Me? Cleaning the fridge is my form of self-care. I have plenty more weird self-care habits.
So, which items/activities would make the perfect self-care day for singles on Valentine’s Day?
1) Have a bubble bath
Light some candles, drop your favourite bath bomb into the water, play your favourite music or set up your iPad to watch your favourite series and relax!
2) Book a solo spa day
If you’re financially able, book yourself into your local spa and enjoy a solo pamper day! Whether you book a massage, or a facial or use the spa’s facilities like the pool or sauna, enjoy a me day at the spa and relax!
3) Take a break from social media
Sometimes seeing loved-up couples can maybe too much of a reminder that you’re single on V-Day, so take a break from scrolling and take care of yourself.
4) Do some colouring
One of the most relaxing activities to do is colouring. Colouring isn’t just for kids, adults can and still enjoy it just as much. I used to love colouring when I was a kid. I was such a stickler for not going outside of the lines! As we all were I suppose. This Valentine’s Day, I shall be starting this colouring book, *’Love in Bloom’ by Alli Koch. This book has a beautiful range of colouring pages of romantic floral imagery and wall art. The book even has velvet pages to colour, which is really unique!

5) Host a Galentine’s party
Gather your friends around for a fun night of games, food, movies and laughs. Decorate your living room and just enjoy some quality time with your besties!
6) Read a book
Curling up with a good book is one of my favourite forms of self-care. Especially when I have a hot chocolate or green tea beside me on the table.
7) Bake a new recipe
Whether it’s cookies or a stir fry, cook yourself a lovely meal or treat for yourself!
8) Buy yourself some flowers
Flowers always brighten my day. Treat yourself to a brand-new bouquet of flowers. Maybe do this in advance of Valentine’s Day, flowers do sell pretty quickly in the lead-up to February 14th.
9) Do some reflection activities
Being single on V-Day is a good opportunity to clear your mind, give it a reset and allow yourself to appreciate all the good you have in your life. Whether it’s writing yourself a love letter, writing down affirmations or writing down a gratitude list, a reflection may be a good thing to do around this time of year. This card deck from Sophie Cliff called *’Sprinkles of Joy’ is a fantastic card deck full of reflective questions split into five categories. These include:

1) Connection – These prompt cards encourage you to feel more connected to the people in your life.
2) Savouring – These prompt cards help you appreciate what is already good in your life.
3) Gratitude – These prompts help inspire you to practice gratitude in your everyday life.
4) Creativity and Learning – These prompt cards contain joyful ways to incorporate creativity and learning into your life.
5) Mood Boosters – These prompt cards are perfect when you need a pick-me-up.

These are some Valentine’s Day activities to do if you’re single on February 14th!
I hope you enjoy Valentine’s Day whatever your plans are!
