So many skincare and beauty experts state the importance of wearing SPF protection, not just in the Summer but all year round. Irrespective of the season of the year, SPF should be applied to the skin every day. As I discovered years ago, UV rays can seep through the clouds during the rainy and winter months. Since I discovered that fact, I’ve made it my mission to ensure that I wear SPF every day of the year.
I know people may be sceptical as to whether there is any point in wearing SPF on the likes of a cold, dreary November day. Like, if it’s not a scorching hot day and there’s not a chance we will get sunburn! But honestly, wearing SPF all year round has huge benefits not just for our skin, but for our overall physical health.
So, why is it so important to wear SPF all year round? Here are the benefits –
1) It provides protection for your skin
Seems like an obvious benefit, but there are plenty of ways that wearing SPF protection protects your skin from the Sun. SPF prevents hyperpigmentation, keeps your complexion even and protects your skin from the visible signs of ageing…the list goes on.
2) It reduces the risks of skin cancer
Did you know that most sun damage happens before you turn 18? That’s quite a scary thought when you think about it. Even more shockingly, did you know that 86% of melanoma cancer cases are preventable? This is why Escentual are running their #SunPoverty campaign once again (which I’m proud to be a part of). Escentual will donate a child-friendly SPF to a child who needs it most when you buy an Escentual, Clarins or Shiseido sunscreen from their website. Such a brilliant initiative from Escentual and a great way to raise awareness of the importance of wearing SPF protection.
3) Prevents sunburn
Yep, that kind of seems the whole point of wearing sunscreen. But even if you’re sat in the house, UV rays can penetrate through windows, so it’s important to apply sunscreen when you’re indoors. This is something which I never used to do, but after discovering that fact, I apply sunscreen every day.
These are some of the important reasons why you should always wear SPF all year round. Also, if you get the chance, please check out Escentual’s #SunPoverty campaign, it’s such a brilliant initiative which is helping so many children. Educating children at a young age about sunscreen and SPF is important. As I said, the majority of skincare damage from the Sun happens before you reach 18.
